Half-Staff Wisconsin Flags – Honoring James Des Jardins
Friday, October 12th, 2012American Flags and Wisconsin Flags to fly at half-staff Sunday, October 14th in the state of Wisconsin in honor of US Army Second Lieutenant James Des Jardins.
According to the office of the governor:
US Army Second Lieutenant James Des Jardins lost his life while serving his country during World War II. 2nd Lieutenant Des Jardins, a member of the 360th Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, 8th Army Corps, was killed in 1944 in action when his P-51 Mustang was shot down during a bombing and strafing run of a railroad station in southwestern Germany. In June, 2011, 2nd Lieutenant Des Jardins’s P-51 Mustang and remains were discovered by German officials when a field near Einhausen, Germany was dredged. Second Lieutenant Des Jardins’s remains were officially accounted for in September, 2012.
