According to the office of the governor:
William McCarthy IV was an officer with the Shenango Township Police Department who died as a result of injuries suffered in the line of duty. Flags are also authorized for display at half-staff in Lawrence County and in any other location deemed appropriate.

West Virginia Flags to fly at half-staff Saturday, May 4th in honor of form West Virginia Senator Lafe Ward.
According to the office of the governor:
Ward was elected to the West Virginia Senate in 1970, 1974, and 1978. He represented West Virginia’s Sixth Senatorial District, which, at the time, was comprised of Mingo, McDowell and Wayne counties. Ward served as Senate Majority Leader for the 61st, 62nd, 63rd and 64th Legislatures of West Virginia. During his tenure, he served on the Senate Committees on Banking and Insurance; Education; Energy; Industry and Mining; Finance; Military; and Transportation. Ward, an attorney, also served as Williamson City Attorney and Prosecuting Attorney of Mingo County.

According to the office of the governor:
Donald McGrane was a Vietnam War Aviation Antisubmarine Warfare Technician who had been MIA since July 19, 1967. His remains were recently identified by the DoD and he is set to be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.

Maryland state flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, May 2nd through the day of interment in honor of Firefighter Gene Kirchner. Kirchner was a seven year veteran of the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company who died as a result of injuries suffered in the line of duty.
