According to the office of the governor:
In 2010, Gov. Tomblin appointed Dr. Lewis as Cabinet Secretary for DHHR, where he served until he resigned due to illness in June 2012.

West Virginia Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, August 9th in honor of former Delegate and Mayor Joe F. Smith.

According to the office of the governor:
Joe F. Smith was elected to the Charleston City Council in 1967 and then as Charleston City Treasurer in 1975. While serving in this capacity he was appointed to fulfill the unexpired mayoral term of John Hutchison. Smith later served as a member of the House of Delegates for the 30th District.

James LaGuardia, Gerard Kozic and David Fleetwood were all three killed when a gunman opened fire during a town meeting.

Plawecki served as state senator for the 12th Senate District from 1971-82, and also served as the majority floor leader. He was the youngest state senator elected in Michigan history at the age of 22. He was influential in the adoption of the state’s Open Meetings Act, Bullard-Plawecki Employee Right to Know Act, and Freedom of Information Act. Plawecki later went on to serve as deputy director of the former state Department of Labor and Economic Growth.

Half-Staff New York Flags – Honoring Dominick Licari

American Flags and New York Flags to fly at half-staff Tuesday, August 6th in the State of New York in honor of US Army Sgt. Dominick Licari. Sgt. Licari served in World War II and was last heard from in 1944, when the A-20G Havoc Bomber on which he was a gunner crashed into a mountainside in New Guinea. He joined the United States Army Air Forces in 1942. After numerous search efforts spanning multiple decades, Sgt. Licari’s remains were recently identified by the U.S. military.

Half-Staff Arizona Flags – Honoring Jonam Russell

American Flags and Arizona Flags to fly at half-staff Monday, August 5th in the State of Arizona in honor of US Army First Lieutenant Jonam Russell. First Lieutenant Russell was killed in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom when an improvised explosive device detonated near his dismounted patrol. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, and was based at Fort Stewart, Georgia.
