Half-Staff Colorado State Flags – Honoring Christopher Birdwell

American Flags and Colorado Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, September 7th in the state of Colorado in honor of US Army Staff Sgt. Christopher Birdwell.

According to the office of the governor:
Army Staff Sgt. Birdwell died on Aug. 27, 2012, in Laghman Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He died of injuries sustained from small arms fire while on dismounted patrol. Birdwell was assigned to A Company, 4th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson.

Half-Staff New York State Flags – Honoring Kyle Rookey

American Flags and New York Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, September 7th in New York state in honor of US Army Specialist Kyle Rookey.

According to the office of the governor:
US Army Spec. Kyle R. Rookey was a member of the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion of the 4th Infantry Division’s 4th Brigade Combat Team. The division is based at Fort Carson, Colorado.

According to the office of the governor:
Former US Congressman Charlie Rose died today of Parkinson’s disease. For 24 years, Rose served in Washington, D.C., to represent constituents of his district, which included his hometown of Fayetteville and much of North Carolina’s southeast.

American Flags and Arkansas Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, August 30th in the state of Arkansas in honor of US Marine Private First Class James Maxwell.

According to the office of the governor:
US Marine Corps Private First Class James R. Maxwell was a dedicated and courageous soldier, who died on May 15, 1975, while serving his country during the Vietnam Conflict. PFC Maxwell was involved in the “Mayaguez Incident”, during which his Marine Corps helicopter was shot down off the coast of Cambodia. After many years of extensive military effort, PFC Maxwell’s remains were located, and he can now finally be laid to rest in his home state and nation.

Half-Staff New Jersey State Flags – Honoring Gunther Wald

American Flags and New Jersey Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, August 30th in the state of New Jersey in honor of US Army Sergeant First Class Gunther Wald.

According to the office of the governor:
US Army Sergeant First Class Gunther Wald was reported missing in action during the Vietnam War in 1969. Sfc Wald was last accounted for when he was part of a Special Forces reconnaissance patrol operating in Quang Tri Province and the patrol was reportedly ambushed by enemy forces on November 3, 1969. Due to heavy enemy presence and poor weather conditions, a search-and-rescue team was not able to reach the site for eight days and the search-and-rescue team found military equipment belonging to another member of the patrol, but no other signs of the patrol. Sfc Wald’s remains have been identified and returned to his family for burial with full military honors.
