American Flags and Illinois Flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday, February 19th through Friday, February 21st in honor of Michael Holmes. Mr. Holmes was a Department of Transportation employee who was killed last week when he was struck by a vehicle while he had stopped and momentarily gotten out of the snowplow he was driving.

Virginia Flags to fly at half-staff Monday, February 17th at the Capitol complex in Virginia in honor of Waynesboro Police Aux. Captain Kevin Quick.
Flags are also authorized for display at half-staff in the City of Waynesboro and in any other locality as deemed appropriate.
Quick disappeared Friday, Jan. 31, after he left his mother’s home and was going to see the mother of his daughter. Police believe this was a random crime with robbery as the primary motive. Investigators discovered Quick’s body Thursday off Old Columbia Road in Goochland County, near the Fluvanna County line. Authorities are still investigating the crime.

Wyoming Flags to fly at half-staff Monday, February 17th in Crook County, Wyoming in honor of Circuit Court Judge Fred Dollison. Dollison served in the US Navy from 1967 to 1973. He graduated from law school in 1980 and served in private practice with various law firms. In 2002 he was appointed as the first Circuit Court Judge in Crook County, Wyoming. A year later in 2003, he became the Circuit Court Judge in Weston County, Wyoming.

Arkansas Flags to fly at half-staff Saturday, February 15th in honor of Arkansas Forestry Commission Pilot Jacob (Jake) Harrell. Harrell died in a plane crash while flying over South Central Arkansas scouting for wildfires. Harrell began flying for the Arkansas Forestry Commission in 2005. He also served as a maintenance crew member in the Arkansas Air National Guard’s 188th Fighter Wing. Harrell served on deployment to Iraq in 2005 and Afghanistan in 2010 and again in 2012. In 2012, Harrell joined the North Little Rock Police Department.

American Flags and New York Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, February 14th in the State of New York in honor of US Army Private 1st Class Joshua Gray. Pfc. Gray died in a non-combat incident while serving in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.

Keeping your flag out of inclement weather will certainly add life to the flag. Take a look at this large American Flag that was exposed to sleet and freezing rain. The ice/moisture froze onto the flag fabric and made the flag brittle which caused it to rip and tatter in a matter of 4-6 hours. This was from the ice storm this week here in Wilmington, NC.

American Flags and Massachusetts Flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday, February 12th in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in honor of US Army Sergeant Myrnairis Cepeda. Sgt. Cepeda was killed when she was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident in Oklahoma. She had served in Iraq, Japan and Turkey during her time in the service.

CWO2 Balli was killed during an insurgent attach in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 2d Cavalry Regiment. CWO2 Balli’s awards include: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan and Iraq Campaign Medals and Combat Action Badge.

American Flags and Washington State Flags to fly at half-staff Sunday, February 9th in honor of US Air Force Captain Christopher Stover. Captain Stover died when the HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter he was piloting crashed while performing training missions. He was currently deployed in England and had previously done tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
