Half-Staff Minnesota Flags – Honoring Harold Evans

American Flags and Minnesota Flags to fly at half-staff Saturday, October 12th in the State of Minnesota in honor of US Army Corporal Harold Evans. Corporal Evans served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was reported as missing in action in December of 1950. His remains were recovered from N. Korea and were positively identified in September of 2013. His military interment ceremony will take place this Saturday.

Half-Staff New Jersey Flags – Honoring Nicholas Oresko

American Flags and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, October 10th through Thursday, October 17th in the State of New Jersey in honor of US Army Master Sergeant Nicholas Oresko. Master Sergeant Oresko was the oldest living recipient of the Medal of Honor (since January 2011). He received his Medal of Honor from President Truman in October of 1945 as a result of his actions in France in 1944. While a platoon sergeant in Company C, 302nd Infantry Regiment, 94th Infantry Division; Oresko defeated two German bunkers while being injured but staying the course until his mission was complete. Master Sergeant Oresko passed away on October 4th at the age of ninety-six.

Half-Staff Colorado Flags – Honoring Joe Rogers

American Flags and Colorado Flags to fly at half-staff Tuesday, October 15th in the State of Colorado in honor of former Lt. Governor Joe Rogers. Rogers served the office of Lt. Governor of Colorado from 1999-2003. He was only the State’s second African-American lieutenant governor and was America’s youngest lieutenant governor when he took office. He was an attorney and also spoke at the 200 GOP National Convention. Rogers will lie in state at the State Capitol West Foyer from noon to 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

This declaration is in accordance with Public Law 107-51 (passed in 2001) to honor firefighters and emergency service personnel who have lost their lives while working to ensure the safety of others. This day also signifies the beginning of the annual Fire Prevention Week.

American Flags and New Jersey Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, October 4th in the State of New Jersey in honor of US Army Staff Sergeant Timothy McGill. US Army Staff Sgt. McGill lost his life in Afghanistan while serving as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Staff Sgt. McGill entered the military in 2001 with the USMC and served in Iraq in 2005. He joined the Rhode Island National Guard in 2008 and was assigned to A Company, 2nd Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group, Army National Guard, Middletown, Rhode Island.

He was assigned to B Company, 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group, Army National Guard, Watkins, Colorado.

Half-Staff Oregon Flags – Honoring Jonathan Gibson

American Flags and Oregon Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, September 27th in the State of Oregon in honor of US Navy Chief Warrant Officer Jonathan Gibson. CWO Gibson died on September 22nd while serving in the central Red Sea in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter he was piloting crashed shortly after touching down on the destroyer USS William P. Lawrence. CWO Gibson was assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Six at Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, California. His medal’s include: the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.

Army Staff Sgt. Lane died while serving in Kabul, Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was part of the 1438th Transportation Company and served as a Motor Transport Operator providing security for convoy operations.

American Flags and Minnesota Flags to fly at half-staff Saturday, September 21st in the State of Minnesota in honor of Justice Rosalie Wahl. Governor Mark Dayton has proclaimed this Saturday the 21st as Rosalie Wahl Day in Minnesota. Justice Wahl served as a Justice on the Minnesota Supreme Court from 1977 to 1994. She was the first woman to serve on the State’s highest court. Wahl was a graduate of the University of Kansas who earned her law degree from William Mitchell College.
