North Carolina Flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday, September 12th at the State Capital, State Highway Patrol offices and state facilities in Nash County in honor of NC State Trooper B. Gene DeMuth.

According to the office of the governor:
Trooper DeMuth was killed in the line of duty when he was struck and killed by a suspect’s vehicle while he was positioning stop sticks to halt a pursuit. He was a 12-year veteran of the State Highway Patrol.

Half-Staff Michigan Flags – Honoring Shane Cantu

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Monday, September 10th in the state of Michigan in honor of US Army Pfc. Shane Cantu.

According to the office of the governor:
US Army Pfc. Shane Cantu died Aug. 28 in Afghanistan. He was a member of the U.S. Army, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team.

Cantu was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal and Army Good Conduct Meal posthumously. His other awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. Cantu received the NATO Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge posthumously. He also received the Parachutist Badge, Combat and Special Skill Badge Basic Marksmanship Qualification Badge and the Overseas Service Bar.

Staff Sergeant Wing died on August 28, 2012 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. Staff Sergeant Wing was a UH-60 Blackhawk Crew Chief assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, of the 126th Aviation Regiment.

Army Staff Sgt. Birdwell died on Aug. 27, 2012, in Laghman Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He died of injuries sustained from small arms fire while on dismounted patrol. Birdwell was assigned to A Company, 4th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson.

According to the office of the governor:
US Army Spec. Kyle R. Rookey was a member of the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion of the 4th Infantry Division’s 4th Brigade Combat Team. The division is based at Fort Carson, Colorado.
