Half-Staff Michigan State Flags – Honoring Kyle McClain

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, August 16th in the state of Michigan in honor of Sgt. Kyle McClain.

According to the office of the governor:
Sgt. Kyle McClain died August 1st in Salim Aka, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1433rd Engineer Company of the 507th Engineer Battalion in the 177th Military Police Brigade in Kalamazoo, Mich. McClain was a solider in the Michigan National Guard. He was a combat engineer serving in Afghanistan, having already served tours of duty in Korea and Iraq.

McClain was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart posthumously. His other awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “Mobilization” device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral 2, North Atlantic Treaty Organization – International Security Assistance Force Medal, Michigan Service Medal (Broadsword), Michigan State War on Terrorism Ribbon with “Mobilization” device, Michigan Outside United States Service Ribbon and the Expert Weapons Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar. He also received the Combat Action Badge posthumously.

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday, August 15th in the state of Michigan in honor of 1st Lt. Todd Lambka.

According to the office of the governor:
1st Lt. Todd Lambka Aug. 1 from injuries sustained by an improvised explosive device in Paktikap province, Afghanistan.

Todd Lambka graduated in 2010 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion of the 28th Infantry Regiment in the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Infantry Division, in Fort Riley, Kansas. Lambka was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart posthumously. His other awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Parachutist Badge. He also received posthumously the Basic NATO Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge.

American Flags and Arizona Flags to fly at half-staff Tuesday, August 14th in the state of Arizona in honor of US Army SSG Richard Berry.

According to the office of the governor:
SSG Berry died July 22nd in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the A Company, 508th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Monday, August 13th in the state of Michigan in honor of US Marine Gunnery Sgt. Daniel Price.

According to the office of the governor:
Sgt. Daniel Price died July 29 while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Immediately following his graduation from high school, Price joined the U.S. Marine Corps in July 2003. He enlisted in several special operations schools, including the Army Airborne School, and completed the combat water safety swimmer and combatant diver courses. Price served three tours of duty in Iraq, where he was promoted to sergeant, and three tours in Afghanistan. He received the Bronze Star with Combat V, a Purple Heart, three Combat Action Ribbons and three Good Conduct Medals.

American Flags to fly at half-staff throughout the country Monday, August 6th through Friday, August 10th out of respect for the victims of the Sikh Temple tragedy.

According to the Office of the President:
As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on August 5, 2012, in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, August 10, 2012. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

According to the office of the governor:
Sgt. Ristau was killed in Afghanistan, while serving on active duty in the U.S. Army, on July 13, when the vehicle he was riding in was attacked by an improvised explosive device.
