American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, June 21st through Monday, June 25th in honor of former state Senator Joe Young Jr.

According to the office of the governor:
Former state Sen. Young represented Detroit and its nearby suburbs in the Michigan House and Senate for more than 20 years. He and his father, Joe Young Sr., both served in the House from 1983-1992, making Michigan history as the first black father and son to serve in the Michigan Legislature simultaneously. Before he was elected, Young served as the administrative staff assistant to former House Speaker William Ryan and as a legislative assistant to former U.S. Rep. Dale Kildee.

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday, June 20th through Thursday, June 21st in the state of Michigan in honor of former state Senator William Van Regenmorter.

According to the office of the governor:
Prior to his retirement, Van Regenmorter served four House terms beginning in 1982, three Senate terms beginning in 1990 and was elected to the House twice more, beginning in 2002. During his tenure in the Michigan Legislature, he authored Michigan’s Crime Victim’s Rights Act of 1985 and sponsored legislation to encourage recycling, reduce crime and protect abused children.

Flags are also authorized for display at half-staff in the County of Arlington and the County of Fairfax.

According to the office of the governor, SFC Alward died June 9th. He was assigned to Company B, 3rd Bn 1st Special Weapons Training Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

American Flags and Maryland Flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday, June 20th in the state of Maryland in honor of US Marine Sgt. Julian Chase. Sgt. Chase died May 28th in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

US Army 1st Lieutenant Mathew Fazzari died June 6th in Afghanistan when his helicopter crashed after receiving enemy fire.

American Flags and Maine Flags to fly at half-staff Saturday, June 16th in the state of Maine in honor of US Army Captain John “Jay” Brainard III.

According to the office of the governor:
Captain Brainard died May 28, 2012, in Afghanistan. He was an active duty helicopter pilot assigned to the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade.

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Monday, June 11th through Wednesday, June 13th in the state of Michigan in honor of Judge Dennis Murphy.

According to the office of the governor:

Judge Murphy served the people of Crawford, Kalkaska and Otsego counties as circuit court judge following his appointment by Gov. John Engler in 1996.  Previously, he worked as an assistant prosecutor in Lapeer, as drug unit chief in Flint, county prosecutor in Gaylord and as chief legal counsel for the Michigan Department of Corrections.
