The flag of Benin was originally adopted in 1959, abandoned in 1975, and reintroduced in 1990. On the left is a green vertical stripe extending the length of the hoist. To the right are two yellow and red horizontal stripes, top and bottom. All three stripes are of equal dimension. The green in the flag symbolizes hope and revival; red recalls the blood of its ancestors spilled on Benin soil; and yellow symbolizes the richness of the savannas. |
