Adopted in 1861, the flag of the Republic of Colombia consists of three horizontal bands of yellow, blue, and red, top to bottom. The yellow, making up the top half of the field, symbolizes the richness of the land; the blue fourth of the flag represents the vastness of the oceans; and the red portion recognizes freedom and the high cost of blood shed to achieve it. |
