The Dominican Republic flag, adopted in 1844, features a white cross in the center which cuts the flag into four alternating rectangles. The rectangles along the top hoist and bottom fly are ultramarine blue, and the rectangles along the bottom hoist and top fly are vermillion red. The blue represents the sky, the red stands for the blood lost during the struggle for freedom, and the white symbolizes peace. The Dominican Coat of Arms is centered on the cross. |
